  • The Windham County Humane Society, located in Brattleboro, VT, is seeking a Chief Veterinarian. The Chief Veterinarian directs veterinary services for WCHS’s clinic and shelter programs. He/she serves as the organization's medical authority, managing the health of the animal population, the surgical program, and disease control protocols. Additionally, he/she partners with leadership to train staff and volunteers, ensuring compliance with state and federal regulations, including those of the DEA and state mandates. The position includes doing surgery, performing examinations, interpreting diagnostics, and developing treatment plans.

    In addition, he/she collaborates with the Director of Operations, Department Managers, and addresses animal issues. He/she advises clients on health matters related to impounded and adopted animals, trains/develops staff as necessary, and is available to work on a flexible schedule. 

    The work week is four or five days (40 hours) per week. Benefits for full-time employees include a monthly “health stipend,” generous paid time off (PTO) accrual, seven paid holidays, and the option to contribute to 401k/403b. Starting salary $125,000.

  • Windham County Humane Society, located in Brattleboro, VT, seeks a Volunteer & Foster Program Coordinator. Essential duties include recruiting, training, managing, supporting, appreciating, tracking, and evaluating all volunteers for WCHS’ programs. These include volunteers working at WCHS’ shelter and clinic, foster homes, and at special/educational events. He/she works closely with the staff to develop volunteer jobs and schedules.

    This is a full-time, non-exempt, full-benefit position based onsite with a starting rate of $17 to $19 per hour, DOE. The ideal candidate will have 2 years of experience working with volunteers in a similar-sized nonprofit organization, have created and implemented protocols, have a proven record in setting goals and working independently, possess solid written and verbal communication skills, and be able to work flexible hours, which will include some weekends and evenings. He/she must have a valid driver’s license with access to reliable transportation, and proficiency with Gmail, Google Suite, and programs like Canva and PowerPoint.

  • Join our team caring for cats and helping them find loving homes! We’re hiring a part-time Feline Technician & Adoption Counselor to work Friday–Sunday, 8:30 AM–4:30 PM (24 hrs/week). Duties include cat care, health monitoring, adoption counseling, cleaning, and supporting shelter operations.

    Looking for a compassionate, detail-oriented team player with strong communication skills and a love for animals. Must be able to lift 50 lbs and follow medical and cleaning protocols.

  • Hours: approximately 24-30/week, 6-8 hour day, 3-4 days a week, M-F.

    The Windham County Humane Society (WCHS) is seeking a Veterinary Assistant (VA) to join our dedicated team. The VA plays an important role in supporting the health and well-being of animals in our care by assisting with medical procedures, surgeries, and wellness services, while maintaining a clean, safe, and compassionate clinic environment.

    About WCHS

    Founded in 1887, WCHS is a non-profit animal welfare organization caring for approximately 800 animals each year. We provide shelter, adoption, spay/neuter programs, wellness clinics, trap-neuter-return services, pet care assistance for low-income owners, and coordination of cruelty/neglect investigations.

    Responsibilities

    • Assist veterinarians during exams, surgeries, dental procedures, and spay/neuter clinics

    • Administer vaccines, medications, flea/tick treatments, and perform basic diagnostic tests

    • Monitor animals before, during, and after procedures; provide post-op and follow-up care

    • Operate and maintain lab and surgical equipment

    • Maintain medical records in Clinic HQ

    • Clean and disinfect clinic spaces and equipment

    • Support inventory management for medical supplies

    • Communicate with clients, staff, and volunteers in a professional, compassionate manner

    Qualifications

    • High school diploma required; CVT a plus

    • At least 2 years’ experience in animal care (humane society, veterinary clinic, or related setting)

    • Skilled in low-stress animal restraint and knowledgeable in veterinary terminology

    • Strong computer and record-keeping skills

    • Able to do basic math and calculate medical dosages Ability to prioritize, work independently, and remain calm in emotional situations

    • Must be able to lift/move up to 50 lbs.

    • Valid driver’s license and legal U.S. residency documentation required
